..... LESSONS TO LEARN BY BOTH THE URHOBOS AND ITSEKIRIS OF WARRI SOUTH LGA.

   My attention has just been drawn to the renaming of EDOKUGHO street area of Iyara in WARRI SOUTH LGA, by the Itsekiris of Warri kingdom to Atse-olu Community..

   The RENAMING has been done for sometime now and to my understanding the renaming was done Legally.

         No Urhobo or Ijaw has Protested the RENAMING so far. It did not even attract a court litigation, and there was no Peaceful protest against it.

  This can only show that the area, renamed belong to the Itsekiris in all ramifications, and must be respected.

I congratulate the Itsekiri people for always being Proactive and futuristic, for smartly trying to assert and Preserve their identity using the Weapon of RENAMING in the midst of their more Populous neighbors.

I do hope my brothers the Urhobos of WARRI SOUTH LGA, will understand the Wisdom of the Itsekiris in this renaming of their area is to assert their identity.

         In the next 20 or 30 years the whole environs will be called Atse-olu Community, and a new Generation of people will be born and grow up with that name.

  We have appealed to you several times that the name "Warri' is not of Urhobo Origin, Government had long decided that it is of Itsekiri Origin from the word "Iwerre" , their capital city. It has given their King the Olu of Warri, and their Kingdom "Warri kingdom".

Legal and Political instruments have been executed to this and Judicial Pronouncements have long sealed it.

   However 2 of our Kingdoms have been Subsumed with the name Warri to our own detriment.

  It is for this Reason that calling yourself a Warri man, when your roots cannot be traced to Iwerre city is nothing but delusions.

Hence like the Itsekiris we have called on you several times to identify your Government Gazetted territories and Change it to WADO CITY.

  Wado city will Preserve your identity more.

For once Please learn from the crafty ways of your Neighbours.

   As the Ward delineations by inec is coming, make sure that Your names are reflected in naming your Wards. Major Bowen is long dead and one of the British colonialists that oppressed us. That ward must be changed to OTOVWODO ward. GRA should be changed to Ogbe Ijoh ward, the Original name.

     You must plan for your own future or the Itsekiris will plan your future for you as they have always done.

      You must not fall for their Divide and rule tactics...those of you saying "we are one people" when they will never allow you to be the LGA chairman despite the DELTA STATE PDP Government Policy of rotation of Chairmanship Position among the Different areas constituting a Local Government are living in a fool's Paradise.

        Let me ask you this question....Which tribe is the Person that is usually appointed as "Market master" of Igbudu Market the biggest market in Delta state from??

   The Ijaws have bluntly refused to accept this kind of brotherhood. Today they have a full local Government headquarters in Ogbe Ijoh their own land.

Meanwhile, the 2 Community development COUNCILS ( CDC), that were created for you after the Crisis of 1997-2002, have been made non functional for more than 10 years now, despite being an Instrument of Delta state law and Gazette.

   Even Constituency 2 that was created for you, was nearly taken from you last year in a highly competitive primaries. The Olu in a leaked Audio tape then clearly said that non of those constituency seats should be given to the non Itsekiris of the old Warri Division as they are "non negotiable".

    You almost would have lost your constituency 2 seat, if not for the Ijaws that fought up to the Supreme Court, where the Supreme Court has ordered for a fresh delineation .

 Instead of forming alliance with the progressive Ijaws like Tompolo and Timinimi, you are forming alliance with those who undermine your existence and grabbed your ANCESTRAL lands for 70 years using the instruments of Colonialism.

   Dear brothers this fresh delineation by inec will make or mar you.

 Take advantage of it, and delineate in such a way that your Population will be pronounced.

  There should be no Fighting and no War.  Do all within the ambit of the law.

As for our Itsekiri Neighbours , the Atse-olu Community RENAMING was done Peacefully, nobody came to disturb, oppose or frustrate you in RENAMING your territory. And I hope you will also show the same understanding when in a nearest future date our People will rename their territories in the old Warri Division to WADO CITY.
