Rally round Oborevwori, Keston Okoro urges Urhobo people

30, Sep, 2025 Politics

National President of the National Renewed Hope Movement, an APC-based political pressure group in Nigeria, Hon Dr Liege Lord Keston Okoro Muhammed Al-Amin has called on Urhobo people all over the world to sink their political differences to support His Excellency, Rt Hon (Elder) Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State to succeed on the mandate he operates instead of throwing distractions on his way.

Addressing newsmen in Asaba, Hon Keston Okoro, a former member of the Delta State House of Assembly described the tantrums and abuses being hurled at the governor particularly from among his Urhobo people as irresponsible and un-dignifying, emphasizing that the governor’s remark on the Warri crisis does not warrant the degree of abuses being hurled at him from among Urhobo people.

He clarified that the governor was being misunderstood as he was working behind the scene to resolve the issues in a manner that can never undermine any ethnic group.

Hon Keston Okoro expressed dismay with the way and manner Urhobo people often harass their own into trouble, making reference to how former Governor James Onanefe Ibori was never allowed a moment of respite while in office and after leaving office.

The former Lawmaker disclosed that there was an underlying conspiracy against Urhobos by devious elements who often stoke the fire of ethnic crisis anytime Urhobo son is in power to discredit and distract him, stressing that when former Governors Uduaghan and Okowa were in office, the Warri crisis never assumed the degree severity it is witnessing today, urging Urhobo people to rather rally round their own instead of hurling insults at them in trying times as this.

‘’When Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan was in power, the Itsekiri nation never make a public show of their own in the media. They were silent and bore whatever they needed to bear at the time. When Dr Ifeanyi Okowa was governor, there were no distractions from his Ika people. He enjoyed their full support for the 8 years he was in office even though he didn’t treat all of them fairly. They had regard for bloodline and protected him in the media. Why is the Urhobo experience different?

‘’Today, most of the attack and distractions in the way of the governor is coming from Urhobo people. The social media is awash with petty criticism and abuses from his Urhobo people simply because the Ukodo may not have been well served to them. Can’t we explore other more dignifying channels of reaching out to the governor instead of making a public show of his perceived weaknesses?

‘’I want to use this medium to appeal to all Urhobo people irrespective of party affiliation and political persuasions to rally round the governor in the discharge of his responsibilities. The attack from the Urhobo nation is unbecoming. While in office, the northern political elites supported former President Muhamadu Buhari throughout the 8 years he was in office. They knew his failings but never make a public show of them. Urhobo should learn to support their own to succeed. That is my advice to all’’, he added.
