Students of the DSC Technical High School, Udu, Delta state, operated by Premium Steel and Mines Limited (PSML), have emerged winners of the 2025 edition of the coveted NDDC Science Competition tagged ‘’The NDDC Schools Challenge’’, organized by the Niger Delta Development Commission for secondary schools in the nine states of the Niger Delta area.
The grand finale of the science quiz competition took place on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, with THS representing Delta State, having earlier won the competition at the state level.
Representatives of DSC Technical High School in the competition, Efayena Michael Oghenenyerhovwo , who is the school Head Boy and Umukopia Faustina outshined their counterparts from the other states with their superlative performances securing 70 points to clinch the top prize, while the first runner up, Oyemeku Secondary School representing Ondo state and Rayfield International School from Akwa-Ibom state came a bracket second with 55 points, before Ondo state finally finished second after a run-off test.
The fourth position went to Surefoot International School from Cross Rivers State with 50 points, while Bishop Dimieari Grammar School, also with 50 points, ended up with the fifth position after losing to Cross Rivers State after a run-off test.
Alvana Model Secondary School from Imo State and Itohan Grammar School representing Edo State came 6th and 7th positions after initially securing 45 points apiece before a run-off test separated them to give them the final tally.
For the 8th and 9th positions, it was Eziama Nnaeto Model School from Abia State and the host Rivers State represented by Our Lady of Fatima College with 40 and 35 points respectively.
The results have once again confirmed the status of the DSC Technical High School as the best secondary school in Delta State, and have maintained the unbeatable records of excellence in all external examinations since inception. The school won the star prize of N2 million naira and a giant trophy, while the two students also smiled home with N500,000.00 each.
Earlier this year, the school also won the Delta State science competition organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology, triumphing over all other secondary schools in the state.
The School Principal, Mr Joseph Sido and a science teacher who led the THS team to Port Harcourt, Mrs Irene Mukoro, in separate interviews, expressed delight with the school's performance in the competition, promising always to put in their best to ensure the DSC Technical High School maintain her leadership position in secondary education in Delta State.
Management of Premium Steel and Mines Limited (PSML) also expressed delight with the feat, promising to always support the school to maintain its leadership position in the education sector.
