…...Cautions against protests and excessive anger
Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Ughelli and Archbishop of Bendel Province, His Grace, the Most Revd Cyril Odiboroghene Odutemu has called on the people of Udu Local Government Area to cooperate with the Executive Chairman of the area, Olorogun Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode, stressing that the administration was young and that he deserves all the support for him to deliver on the mandate of leading Udu in the next three years
Speaking in Ovwian during the annual Confirmation service of the Diocese of Ughelli for faithfuls in Udu West Archdeaconry, Archbishop Odutemu urged the people to extend the same measure of support to his Ughelli South and North counterparts, Dr Lucky Avweromre and Olorogun Jaro Egbo respectively, noting that the three councils bosses are very accessible and do not need public attacks but cooperation and guidance for them to succeed.
He emphasized that while Sir Jaro Egbo and Dr Lucky Avweromre are core Anglicans, Olorogun Vincent Oyibode is a trustworthy friend of the Anglican Church and so must be supported to succeed.
Archbishop Odutemu cautioned against excessive display of anger on the least provocation, urging all to be patient with one another since the terrible economic situation in the country was enough provocation for people to react violently.
"You must learn to control your temper in reaction to issues. People are easily provoked these days because of the economic situation we found ourselves. Things are difficult everywhere and any little spark can provoke people into avoidable public display of anger and bitterness.
"I also wish to urge you to guide against protests which may not yield any positive results. Everybody is angry in Nigeria and the security agencies are not insulated from the frustration in the land. Protests these days are easily hijacked by hoodlums hence the need to be cautious with participation.
"Let us continue to pray for our leaders instead of engaging in destructive criticism that cannot lead us out of our situation. The Bible urges Christians to pray for the leaders, that we must always do instead of cursing them.
"Nigeria is passing through a phase and we need God to survive the present situation. So calm down and maintain public decorum for peace to reign in the land. Violence will not change anything.
"I also wish to urge you to support and continue to pray for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to succeed. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu also deserve our support and prayers. In His own time, God will turn things around for his people. Only be steadfast in prayers for our leaders, because leadership is not an easy task", the Archbishop added.
The confirmation service was was attended by a vast array of Anglican faithfuls from the Archdeaconry and beyond including Hon Lucky Avweromre, Executive Chairman of Ughelli South LGC, Rt Hon Henry Apunu, Leader of the Udu legislative arm, Hon Justice Iyasere, former Vice Chairman Udu Local Government Council who represented the Movement for the Creation of the Anglican Diocese of Udu, and many others.
Over 50 Anglican faithfuls were confirmed through the laying on of hands by the Archbishop while several others were enrolled into the Mothers Union, Women Guild, Girls Guild and Father's Union.
